Lose Weight in 2011…Just Learn the Facts Before Choosing a Weight Loss Plan!

In 2009, overall self-reported obesity prevalence in the United States was 26.7% according to the Center For Disease Control.*  Other research suggests it is closer to 1 in 3 Americans who are actually obese.  NO state met the obesity prevalence target of 15%.  We think everyone would agree that this is a sobering and discouraging statistic, especially when NONE of those 80 million or so Americans WANTS to be obese.  They would all choose thinness if they just knew how to control it.

Anyone who’s been overweight knows it’s difficult to lose the weight and keep it off.  The International Journal of Obesity (September 2000) reported on self dieters in a non-medical setting after 1 year of dieting.  “At 1 year of follow-up, subjects had gained on average 0.7%.”**  This shows how difficult it is to lose any weight.  Without the proper medical and professional guidance, many dieters simply fail to make any positive change in their weight, and ultimately, their health.

2.  Choose a Method That Delivers Proven Results! Structured, physician-supervised strategies can average 44 pounds of weight loss in 3 months for many patients.  This is supported by The National Institutes of Health, which stated that a physician-supervised, Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD), “may allow a patient who is moderately to extremely obese to lose about 3 to 5 pounds per week, for an average total weight loss of 44 pounds in 12 weeks.” **

3.  Cravings Can Sabotage the Best Intentions!  Appetite control, through nutrition, and when appropriate, utilizing FDA approved medications, can help patients adjust to a change in eating habits without excessive hunger and feelings of being deprived.

4.  Metabolism Affects Weight Loss!  An impaired or “sluggish” metabolism due to age, genetics, hormones, inactivity or poor nutrition can slow weight loss.  By evaluating and managing nutritional, hormonal and biochemical status, metabolism can often be improved.  An improved metabolism can result in weight loss, improved blood pressure, blood sugars, cholesterol and energy levels.
